About

Dale Brubaker is the principal of Brubaker Incorporated [dba Brubaker Design].  Dale enjoys the creative process, hands-on opportunities and challenges involved with the development, design and implementation of exhibits, special decoration, and scenic environments.  Dale prides himself on his attention to detail.  He believes that an attractive and well executed exhibit or scenic design is the result of a thoughtful and masterful composition of design elements and subtle details – deemed a success only if it fulfills the objective and attracts and engages the observer.

Dale received a BFA degree in Technical/Design Theatre from Florida Atlantic University in 1980, having been the recipient of a scholarship endowed by one of the masters of technical theatre and professor emeritus, Harold Burris-Meyer.  While an undergraduate he became a journeyman member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) and has worked in all technical areas of theatre, having been involved in over seventy-five productions.  In 1981, Dale was awarded a graduate assistantship to the University of Georgia where he furthered his studies in theatrical set and lighting design.

Dale has designed theatre sets and props for such notable directors as Nikos Psacharopoulos, Burt Reynolds, Richard Chamberlain, Charles Nelson Reilly, Kenneth McMillan, and Charles Abbott  – and more recently Jessica Phelps West, Philip DePoy, and Lisa Mount.

Prior to founding Brubaker Incorporated in 1988, Dale was the Design Director for the southeast region branch offices of the Freeman Decorating Company where he supervised the design of tradeshows, exhibits, international pavilions, and special event decoration.  Projects included the decoration of the NFL Superbowl XVIII at Tampa Stadium; proposed designs for the lobby interior and trademark for Southern Bell headquarters in Atlanta; and special design elements for the USA Pavilion at Telecom ‘ 87 in Geneva, Switzerland.

He has held professional memberships in the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), National Association for Interpretation (NAI), the International Museum Theatre Alliance (IMTAL), the Southeastern Museum Conference (SEMC), and the Georgia Association of Museums and Galleries (GAMG).  His work has been pictured in Theatre Crafts as well as several other trade publications citing creativity.

For over thirty years now, Dale’s work has evolved and become more focused on the development, design, and implementation of museum type exhibits with occasional forays into theatrical set design.  As evident in the accompanying portfolio, projects range from the small and/or temporary to larger more permanent installations.

Dale is married, has three grown children, and has resided in Decatur, Georgia since 1983.
