The Foxfire Museum & Heritage Center

Design and implementation of interpretive wayside exhibits in addition to freestanding outdoor photography panels located throughout the grounds of the heritage center. The project continues to be ongoing and will include interpretive panels and exhibits inside the numerous cabins and outbuildings and perhaps a more developed separate interpretive center that tells the Story of Foxfire.

The goal is to foster a lively and deep understanding and appreciation of the Southern Appalachian history, culture, and heritage. The new interpretive program will enhance the current collections with well-researched context information on the history of Southern Appalachia, document and demonstrate the origins and uses of buildings and artifacts, and provide an interactive digital interpretive experience for visitors.

This current activity seeded by the award of a challenge grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
