As Designer Director for the southeast region of the Dallas-based Freeman Decorating Company for eight years, Dale Brubaker designed and detailed literally hundreds of trade show exhibits from simple inline booths, to larger peninsula and island exhibits. Brubaker had key involvement with the success of a rental modular exhibit system patented and introduced by Freeman – similar to the Octanorm modular exhibit system then popular in Europe. The modular system was also incorporated into the designs of the typical components needed for the mounting of the trade show itself – registration and information booths, entrance and sign-in units, directional kiosks, overhead aisle signs, etc. This approach to trade show design and customized exhibit rental was soon after adopted by other competing decorating companies.
