White Oak Tree Exhibit (Quercus alba)

Design and fabrication of a structure replicating an old white oak tree struck by lightning and deadened on one side. Exhibit demonstrates the extent to which both living and dead trees function as habitats for a variety of living organisms and wildlife. Strategically placed granite boulders enable children to step up to view higher cavities in the tree, home to various lifeforms. Subcontracted in conjunction with Acorn Graphic Solutions and initially part of the Chicopee Woods exhibit hall. Relocated to lobby/gift shop area.
